As reported in a thesis from the Department of Mining Engineering, University of Missouri, 1992: The University’s final conclusion was the “Brazilian Stone is the strongest and will deform the least when used in pool table construction.” The Brazilian stone has significantly higher tensile and flex strength over the Italian and Chinese stone. The slate is hand split with the cleft to produce a natural table top to be machine finished within 1/1000ths of an inch tolerance. Imperial Slate carries a lifetime warranty.
Baillie Lumber Company, established in 1923 in Hamburg, New York supplies the Maple and Oak used extensively in Imperial tables. The lumber is harvested from the Northern Regions of the United States, kiln dried to 7% moisture content and graded. Only FAS #1 grade is used for Imperial tables. The Honey, Antique Walnut and Mahogany finished tables are constructed of Northern Maple. The Oak tables are made from Red Oak.
The Valspar Corporation, one of the world’s largest global coatings manufacturers, provides the coatings used in all Imperial pool and game tables. The use of this space age finish accentuates the beauty of the natural wood while offering exceptional wear protection
The greatest advancement in Pool Table construction came from the development of CNC machinery. Imperial Pool Tables are completely CNC machined. Every angle, radius and hole is control cut by computer.
